Selected Sermons

Here are a few sermons from my home church, Bethel Baptist Church. "Selected Sermons" refers to the fact that this listing is not an exhaustive listing of sermons that either I, or the associate pastors have preached. Hence, "Selected Sermons" is the title. This page will always be a little under construction and subject to change. Perhaps these sermons will be of help, or encouragement to you (or others).

The Trouble with Jesus and You
(John 10:19-21)

This message is a continuation of our series on John's gospel. The premise is that our life much match our profession as we decide and declare where we stand in relation to Jesus Christ. Messiah or Madman, which is He? It's really a black and white issue. There are no grays when it comes to Christ. There is no neutrality. There is only love and obedience or emnity and disobedience. One is either with Him or against Him. Your problem is that you must choose because He demands it. Your choice is reflected in your characteristic obedience... not sinless perfection. However, you desire to follow Him is reflected by your willingness to follow Him whereever your obedience leads, or hate Him. Choose wisely. It is in WMA format. You can download it, or play it from the server.

Before It's Too Late
(John 7:10-52)

This message was preached from my lengthy series on John's gospel. It is taken from John chapter 7, during Jesus' interactions with the people of Jerusalem, Pilgrims coming to Jerusalem during the Feast of the Tabernacles, and the Leaders of the Jews. It is the occassion wherein Jesus formally presents Himself to the Jewsih people as their Messiah during the Feast of the Tabernacles. This is an exposition of a narrative. It is a salvation message and a challenge to those who are already born again as well. It is in WMA format. You can download it, or play it from the server.

On Clinging to What is True (in Times of Trouble)

(The Book of Habakkuk)

On more than one occassion I have been accused of spending weeks on a couple of verses and taking forever to preach through a book of the Bible. I taught through the entire book of Habakkuk on this morning. The message is for those whose situation (outwardly) seems hopeless. The message has to do with the key to facing the heartbreaks, conundrums, and trials of life, when everything seems to be going wrong.

What (Who) is the Holy Spirit?
(Selected Texts)

This is a message that was inspired by John's reference to the Holy Spirit in John 7:38-39. It is a "theological discussion" and a devotional message on the blessings of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We often overlook the abundant blessings we have already received from God. These blessings are the focus of this message.

A Bondservant Knows His Place
(James 1:1)

This message is part of a larger series taught in the evenings, entitled, "Taking Your Walk with Christ to the Next Level. The Premise is that we live in an age of entitlement where we forget that we were created by God to serve Him. We look at God as a genie in a bottle. Caught up in ourselves, we forget that we really have no rights and that our beloved God and Savior is our Master. This message kicked off our evening series by exploring the nuggets of gold found in James 1:1. You can't grow in grace unless you know your place.
